Materials
Ethical, Eco Friendly & Handmade
The materials we work with shape our collections and play a key part in our look and values. We choose to work with natural, recycled and reclaimed materials through sustainable methods of production.
Cotton Paper
Our photograph albums and journals are filled with beautiful handmade paper, created from pieces of recycled cotton rag. This ancient paper-making skill has been passed on through generations. Cotton paper has the additional benefit of being tree free, as no wood pulp is used.
Recycled Glass
Our glassware is handmade from recycled glass. Firstly, the waste glass is collected and washed to remove any impurities; itís then crushed and melted down before being hand blown or placed in moulds to create beautiful new products.
Hemp
Hemp is a wonderful eco-friendly material. It does not require pesticides and its density of growth leaves little room for weeds. Its durability and strength mean that it is also a long lasting material, ideal for our rugs, poufs and baskets.
Rattan
Our rattan baskets are hand woven using ancient Indonesian basket making skills. The cultivation of rattan has the added benefit of delaying deforestation in some areas; this is because it has become such a valuable material that logging has been stopped to allow rattan growth.
Natural Stone
Our jewellery collections are handmade with natural stones, sourced in India. India has a rich heritage of exquisite natural gemstones. The unique beauty that you see is created by nature, layers of mineral deposits formed over centuries. Our jewellery is made using a traditional handmade process, we carefully select each stone before it is hand cut to size and set in the final design.
Jute
Jute is a great eco product as it is a rain fed crop that has little need for fertilizer or pesticides. It is a natural vegetable fibre that can be spun into coarse strong threads, perfect for creating our beautiful collection of durable rugs and baskets.
Mango Wood
Mango wood is a sustainable source of hardwood timber. The mango trees are initially grown for their fruit, but once they have stopped producing they can be cut down and used to create wood products with a beautiful colour and grain. This allows farmers to plant more trees and provides them with a supplementary income.
Ceramic
Our ceramics include clay, terracotta and stoneware. These raw materials are brought to life by skilled artisans from around the world using a wealth of techniques that are thousands of years old. The collections are hand painted and shaped by hand incorporating indigenous and contemporary influences.
Leather
The leather we use to make our leather collections is sourced in India and is a bi-product from the food industry. We carefully select our leather hides and use natural, traditional treatments to retain their individual character. Depending on the leather collection, we use either natural vegetable dyes or azo-free chemical dyes.
Recycled Metal
Many of our stylish picture frames are handmade from a mix of recycled light metals or recycled aluminium. Recycling metal has the additional benefit of using less energy and producing fewer emissions, as compared with primary production. It is a versatile material that creates a beautiful finish.
Hand Etched Metal
The intricate patterns and intimate detail of these decorative pieces are created by hand. The master craftsmen who utilise these well practiced skills create eye-catching designs that lift these products from plain simplicity to sophistication.
